A Message from the Head of Sixth Form
We are very proud of Moor Park Sixth Form and what its students and staff achieve each year. The past two years have been significant and successful years in the sixth form’s development. I travel widely and I have been struck by the fact that whereas at one stage people would ask “where is Moor Park sixth form”, the developments of recent years have put us very much on the educational map; we are now the top performing school sixth form in Lancashire for A level progress.
The sixth form maintains many of the school’s traditions but now, thanks to the Governors’ foresight, has a magnificent set of contemporary facilities to match the family atmosphere of which we are all so proud.
We believe that the best sixth forms provide a wide range of challenges for their students. These challenges take many forms and are not solely the obvious one of providing appropriate challenge in the classroom. Challenge will be different for each student and what, for one young person will be easy, for another can be a major hurdle requiring courage and fortitude to overcome. That is why we place great emphasis on the breadth of what we provide at Moor Park. Our focus on high quality enrichment activities best exemplifies this commitment.
The central challenge within any sixth form is the pursuit of the highest academic outcomes and I am pleased to report that our students have done us proud this year, with a 100% pass rate, 80% high grades at A -level and 100% Distinction* in BTEC courses. This is the second year that the proportions of high grades were outstanding.
Staff in the sixth form are committed to providing a well-balanced and challenging curriculum for all students. The new academic year will offer two learning pathways both traditions A level and vocational courses, which offer extended BTEC programmes. Details of our courses can be found on the website.
As a prospective student, you may have many questions which we will be happy to answer. The best option is to attend our open evening, where you will be able to speak to current students, discuss your choices with subject teachers and have a good look at what we can offer.
We look forward to meeting you and supporting you in making us your first choice for the next stage of your studies.
