Year 10 and 11

Students will follow the AQA syllabus. They will study number, algebra, ratio, proportion and rates of change, geometry and measure, probability and statistics. The course is linear; all examinations will be taken at the end of year 11. There is no controlled assessment in maths. Students are entered for either foundation tier (grades 1 – 5) or the higher tier (grades 4 – 9). The new GCSE course has three written papers each lasting 1 hour 30 minutes. Paper 1 is non-calculator with paper 2 and 3 being calculator papers. Each paper consists of a mix of questions, from short single mark questions to multi-step problems. The mathematical demand increases as the student progresses through the paper.
