Yesterday was our first big careers event of the year, with 21 local and regional employers from a range of sectors coming to speak to our Year 10 and Year 11 pupils. Amongst our visitors were representatives from the NHS, Teach First, Westinghouse Nuclear, Harrison Drury Solicitors, JFN Integrated Solutions and representatives from both the Army and the RAF.
Year 10 spent an hour ‘speed-networking’ in the hall and had the opportunity to speak to 10 of our visitors about their work and ask some pertinent questions. It was a thrill to see Year 10 so engaged and asking some fantastic questions. Some pupils represented themselves so well, that they were told to approach the employers again when they were looking for work!
After a short break, it was the turn of Year 11 to complete a 15-minute mock interview, which they had spent the previous few weeks preparing for in school. Again, year 11 performed exceptionally well, with one employer feeding back that they felt they were ‘sat in a room with future bankers, engineers and doctors’.
It was clear from watching the interview process that Year 11 had not only prepared themselves well and represented the school, but also that they had learned a lot from the process. Many walked out of the interview room with a smile on their face, a new-found confidence and content with their positive feedback form employers.
Both year groups should be proud of how they performed, as we are of them and we would like to thank our visitors once again for giving up their time for free to help prepare our pupils for life after Moor Park.
