The Psychology students attended the Annual Psychology Conference in Manchester. An inspiring day, consisting of a range of Psychological disciplines. Dr Peter Lovatt, engaged students with his expertise of dance, hormones and thinking. He explained how movement influences the way in which people solve problems. Peter also demonstrated how the way you move is influenced by your hormonal and genetic makeup. The students were then given the opportunity to watch the fantastic Magician, Oliver Meech. Having studied Psychology at Oxford University, and Magic at The Magic Circle, he combined the two in order to give us a taste of one of his critically-acclaimed shows. He revealed the real secret to magic tricks, that they’re not about fooling the eyes, but bamboozling the brain. Every trick is a real world psychology experiment! We discovered how magicians can offer eye-opening insights into the way we think and act. Finally, students were fortunate to watch the famous Andrew Newton, one of the most successful and experienced hypnotists in the world. He has over 5,500 public and television appearances under his belt and was the man who taught Paul McKenna. His demonstration of hypnosis was both fascinating and funny. A great end to a great day!
