As part of their ‘Active Citizenship’ programme, some Year 7 pupils have been preparing to implement a litter picking initiative here at Moor Park.
Overseen by Mrs Bradley and Mr Hawarden, a group of pupils were selected to receive training in the safe practice of litter picking from Preston Council’s Litter Education Officer, Anne Millne-Riley. The training took place on the bright sunny morning of 24 May.
Now the training has been delivered, the group will demonstrate the correct procedure to the rest of Year 7 who will then, on a weekly basis, take part in supervised litter picking sessions around the school grounds and immediate surrounding area. As ‘active citizens’, our Year 7 pupils will be making a valued contribution both to the school and the community.
Working with Preston City Council, the school has already been awarded the ‘Bronze’ and ‘Silver’ Eco-Excellence Awards and following this latest initiative we have applied for the highest ‘Gold’ schools Eco Award.
The Eco Excellence Scheme is designed to recognise compliance and reward excellence for those schools that are keeping their premises and surrounding areas clean and tidy. Taking part gives schools the chance to play a part in making Preston a cleaner, greener and safer place.
