Yesterday morning I had my free NHS health check and discovered that, despite the stressful nature of the day, my blood pressure was spot on. This wasn’t always the case and I think that I have trained myself, like a zen buddhist, to overcome stress and not to sweat the small stuff. Stress is the real issue when you are a member of staff at school and I learned some time ago that I should not waste my worries on issues that I can’t control. This was liberating and has allowed me to be more effective. Learning that you can’t control all aspects of your environment has allowed me to be better at grappling with the variables that I can control.  The health check wasn’t all good news however, it appears that my love of pies and beer may be affecting my cholesterol. This news stressed me out and saw my blood pressure rise.
